Assume volunteer positions in organizations. This keeps you in front of people and gives you a reason to approac or be approached by others in attendance. It also gives you a topic of conversation.
Determine your goals before choosing a networking event. This will help you select an event that will best help you to meet these goals. There are events that focus on meeting new people of all kinds, learning and/or volunteering.
Networking, whether at a meeting for that purpose or just in line at a grocery store, is about being genuine. The more genuine and athentic you are, the faster you will build trust and relationships.
Keep it real and keep it about the other person!
